I love television and I have no shame! I can't imagine going without my episodes of Lost and Ugly Betty and Brothers and Sisters. And really, it's all about having Tivo or a DVR so you can tape all the stuff you really want to see and watch it when you want to.

Very true.

Saying that TV is evil has surely passed its sell-by date.

There are so many new forms of media for these people to pick on now anyway. Why hasn't TV obtained the same wholesome, free-of-evil-intent-or-brain-rotting-properties image that books have? How many decades will it take?

That's a solid, well-reinforced soapbox. The other day on TCM I caught two movies I'd never seen -- A Face in the Crowd and The Fountainhead, both the kinds of movies that still hold up because the stories are brilliant. I'd have missed them without my TV. True that TV doesn't meet its potential at every moment on every channel, but for those willing to take the responsibility to find the good stuff it's well, well worth it. Now if the brass would quit canceling good shows before they get traction (still smarting from the loss of Arrested Development) it would be even better. I also saw some Twilight Zones from the archives, notable to me because the stories were so strong in that series, which was birthed by a playwright. Great writing, great stories, moving pictures and music are the most potent methods of communication we have, I think. You gotta dig, but they're in the box. Also, don't let tweets (or commenters) boss you around ;)
